Meet the Author

Shelley Tanaka works on both sides of the publishing industry. On one side, she is a fiction editor for a major children's book publisher in Canada. On the other side, she has become well known as an author of nonfiction books for children. Her first such book, The Heat Is On, is about how energy is used and how we can help our planet by using less energy. Most of her nonfiction, however, deals with important events in history — some famous, such as the wreck of the Titanic, and some not so famous, such as a Jewish family's escape from wartime Lithuania. She has won numerous awards for her writing.
