A quotation is something that a person said. Reading the words real people have said helps us learn more about people or about a time in history. In the quotation below, the first Hispanic woman astronaut tells us her feelings about school.
“If you stay in school, you have the potential to achieve what you want.”
Excerpt from “Ellen Ochoa: The First Hispanic Woman Astronaut” by Maritza Romero, Hispanic magazine, May 1990.
Ellen Ochoa grew up in La Mesa, California. Her favorite subjects in school were math and science. Her mother told her that education was important, so Ochoa studied science in college. She used her education in science to become an astronaut. She is the first Hispanic woman astronaut in the United States.
