Grade 3, Chapter 7 Investigation Organizer:
Mask Task!
Summary: Use what you know about shapes to make a fun mask. Your mask can look like an animal, person, or creature. It does not have to be flat. When your mask is completed, you will use it to act out a story with your group.
1. Plan It
A. Choose a story. Decide on a story your group would like to act out.
B. Choose a type of mask. Decide what kind of mask to make and choose some shapes to use.
C. Plan your mask on graph paper.
- Begin by folding the paper in half.
- Draw a dark line on the fold to use as a line of symmetry.
- Design half of the mask. Use slides and turns.
- Use flips to draw the other half of the design.

2. Put It Together
A. Cut out your mask. Tape it on construction paper. Cut around the pattern.
B. Decorate your mask.
C. Glue. Glue your mask to a craft stick to hold it up to your face.

3. Wrap It Up
Find the lines of symmetry in your group's masks. Act out your story for another group.

- Talk about how the masks were made. How well did the masks fit the characters?
- How did you choose the shapes for your mask?
- Did you show symmetry?
- Did you use flips, turns, and slides?
- Did your group work well together to act out the story?
