I Know a Place
Lesson at a Glance
Unit 4, Lesson 4: From Harbor to Harbor (pp. 142-145)
The Big Idea
Framework Concepts: Goods and Location Students learn that our country depends on other countries for goods.
- Use the map on Student Book pages 144-145 to discuss the key terms: goods, depend, and harbor. Invite students to explain the symbols on the map. Ask students to explain how goods get from one country to another. Then have a volunteer point out the freighters and the port cities located on the world map.
Check for Understanding
- Have students write and illustrate storyboards for a television news special showing and telling about the goods that are shipped from a country and where the ship will land. They should describe what goods the ship carries.
- Have students draw a ship. Inside, they should draw pictures of different goods that come from other countries. They can refer to the products shown in the house on Student Book page 142 for help.
